Going, going, going … gone! Arctic ‘death spiral’ continues. US Navy predicts ice free summer by 2016
I stand by my previous statements that the Arctic summer sea ice cover is in a death spiral. It’s not going to recover. (Mark Serreze, NSIDC director, September 2010)
The US Navy predicts an ice free Arctic summer by 2016.
What happens in the Arctic does not stay in the Arctic. The Arctic is the canary in the coalmine of the global climate system.
The melting of the Arctic is only the most obvious of several major positive feedbacks in the climate system leading to abrupt climate change with devastating global consequences.
Strange that hardly anyone seems to pay attention.
