NASHVILLE — One man’s dream debut was another’s nightmare Saturday night at LP Field in Nashville. Bobby Petrino’s triumphant return to college football came at Mark Stoops’ expense. Petrino’s Western Kentucky team toppled Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats 35-26 in the first game for both. It wasn’t that close, either.
The Wildcats (0-1) trailed throughout and couldn’t exact revenge for last season’s 32-31 upset loss to the Hilltoppers, a troubling trend for a program trying to compete in the mighty Southeastern Conference. Western Kentucky (1-0), meanwhile, can now dream big about what Petrino might deliver its upstart program. […]
Kentucky looks like it is in for another long season, a slow, painful rebuilding process, while Petrino has the Toppers blistering out of the blocks.
